Imperial College donate desktop computers to the University of Sierra Leone – January 2020

A team of academic visited the University of Sierra Leone in February 2019 to undertake an assessment of the undergraduate engineering degree course as part of a project funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering to upgrade the training and practice of engineering in Sierra Leone. The team observed that students were lacking in practical laboratory equipment and computer equipment as part of the course programme.

This resulted in Imperial College London donating 78 desktop computers and other laboratory equipment to the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sierra Leone (USL). The computers were shared between the university and other educational institutions including the Sierra Leone Institution of Engineers and the Innovation Hub at the University.  The donation was facilitated by Engineers for Change (Sierra Leone) who arranged for the shipping and distribution of the computers to the University. A formal handover ceremony was held at the Deputy Vice Chancellor’s Office in 14th January 2020.
